Plus Program (Grades 3-5)
The Plus Program is Briarcrest’s program for intellectually gifted elementary students. Identified children in grades 3, 4, and 5 participate in this twice monthly pull-out program. On those days, students leave their regular classroom and spend a full day with their peers in the Plus Program. The program strives to provide new and challenging learning experiences designed to involve students as active participants in their own learning, while fostering the development of thinking abilities, creativity, and problem solving. The Plus Program aids children in developing the skills that will encourage them to become life-long learners and leaders.
Passport Program (Grades 6-8)
The Passport Program serves our intellectually gifted middle school students. Identified on the basis of intelligence tests, achievement test scores, and semester grades, selected students attend the Passport Program twice monthly for half of the school day. This schedule allows them to keep up with their rigorous academic class load and still participate in the types of activities experts agree are beneficial to the gifted student. The purpose of the Passport Program is to develop higher level thinking skills, nurture positive self-esteem, encourage healthy ambition, promote problem solving abilities, and strengthen student interest in achieving academic excellence.
Plans are underway and students are currently being identified for the 2012-2013 school year. Questions about the Plus and Passport Programs should be directed to Lois Parker at email@example.com.
