Grandparents' Day-All grandparents are invited to a special celebration on Friday, March 27. It is our hope that each student will have a grandparent to attend this celebration. A parent or special friend is welcome to attend if grandparents are not available. If you have a grandchild in both age groups, the younger grandchild may stay in the classroom until your classroom visit with the older grandchild is over. Following classroom visits students may leave for a wonderful lunch and afternoon with their grandparents. Students should sign out with their classroom teacher. Briarcare is available if students need to remain after early dismissal. The schedule for Grandparents' Day is below:

8:30-9:00 Little Saints through 1st grade grandparents meet in Sparks Chapel

9:00-9:30 Visit Little Saints through 1st grade classrooms (Guides will be available to assist.)
10:00-10:30 2nd through 5th grade grandparents meet in Sparks Chapel
10:30-11:00 Visit 2nd through 5th grade classrooms (Guides will be available to assist.)

A.C.T.(Adventures in Creative Thinking)-Our PLUS teacher, Lois Parker, is spending time in our 1st-5th grade classes to teach lessons in an "out of the box" way. She is promoting critical thinking in creative ways. Be sure to ask your child about it!

Project Based Learning-Our 3rd grade has enjoyed researching and making simple machines through a Project Based Learning lesson with Mrs. Hosse and their classroom teacher this week.

Everyday Heroes-Miss Gaines, our school counselor, has started a new “kindness campaign” for grades 3-5. The focus is on thinking before speaking and the hope is to recognize kindness in the school and motivate and inspire the kids to be "everyday heroes” to each other. We look forward to seeing our heroes around school!

Facebook News-Please visit our Facebook page "Briarcrest Houston Levee Elementary PTF" for pictures and updates.

One-to-One Initiative-Beginning next school year, 2016-2017, our fifth grade students will have school issued MAC computers.  The computers will be used daily to enhance our curriculum and student learning.  Learning technological, research and project based skills is crucial in this technological age.  Briarcrest is committed to providing strong academic teaching within the one-to-one initiative.  You will hear more about this exciting addition to our curriculum in the near future.

Theme for the Year

Again Jesus spoke to them saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:1

Attendance/Tardies

Please remember to notify your child's teacher AND the school office (765-4613) if they will be absent or late to school. It is very important that your child be at school on time; however, we do realize that doctor and dentist appointments often cause them to check in late. Thank you for stressing to your child the importance of being at school and on time.

Please contact your child's teacher before applying to this program. For further information, our Elementary Guidance Counselor Miss Gaines can assist you at 765-4621.
